Fableborne Closed Playtests are exclusive repeating events with a small number of players over a short period of time to get feedback on new and updated features in the game.

With Closed Playtest II, another successful month for Fableborne is drawing to a close. Thanks to your participation in this playtest, we have been able to glean valuable lessons on how to improve the current features and continue developing Fableborne to become one of the top Action RPG strategy games on Android and iOS. We cannot build this game without you, and we are grateful for you being part of our community!

From April 13th to April 16th, our dedicated testers were able to explore the latest game features, including:

  • New tutorial videos (Hero controls, Hero upgrades, and building)
  • Improved handling of Leon’s abilities
  • Heroes needing to recover after being damaged in Raids
  • Increased timer for bigger islands, allowing for longer Raids
  • Gold Mines now producing more Gold
  • Faster appearance of mining zones upon upgrading your island
  • Fairer matchmaking, taking Trophies into account

Now, let’s review how you felt about the latest version of the game!

Did players enjoy the game?

Absolutely! With an average rating of 8.4 out of 10, players enjoyed the game even more compared to the previous playtest. This not only makes us very proud but also confirms that our playtests are steering us in the right direction in building the game with you.

Which Hero was most preferred, and did players switch their preferences?

Despite some improvements, Leon was played even less frequently. Players’ preferences shifted somewhat due to various factors such as rebalanced abilities, more effective talent choices, and gameplay preferences.

Did players’ raiding strategy change compared to the previous Closed Playtest?

Not everyone adjusted their strategy, but a third of all players did. Changes in raiding strategies mainly resulted from the ability to switch between Heroes during raids and the rebalancing of some Hero abilities.

Players reported a more strategic approach, utilizing the hot-swapping feature and comboing Hero abilities more efficiently, adapting their playstyle to suit specific situations. This is great news, as our goal is to provide an experience where you can quickly change your Hero roster to counter different base layouts.

Did players’ builder strategy change compared to the previous Closed Playtest?

Changes in builder strategies were similarly diverse among respondents. Some players shifted their focus to upgrading Heroes instead of the island, while others prioritized defence by adding more monsters or upgrading towers. A few players also noted the difficulty in gathering gold due to frequent raids, leading them to adjust their strategy accordingly.

How should the raid experience be improved?

Many players expressed the desire to know whose base they are raiding, suggesting that adding the opponent’s username or some identifier could enhance the competitive nature of the game, which is already in the scope of future playtests.

Other suggestions included improvements to character control, ability cooldowns, building and monster variety, balancing the difficulty of raids and defences, faster movement and response time in combat, and additional difficulty settings and rewards for higher difficulty.

Did players encounter any bugs or crashes?

Players experienced fewer bugs this time, with specific bugs only encountered once. Most reports were about issues we were already aware of, which means the reported bugs are already being addressed in future playtests!

We have many more features on the horizon for you to test, including player progression, new towers, monsters, and, most importantly, new Heroes! Playtests are here to stay, and we’re excited to build one of the top Action RPGs in web3 with you!
